Dora backpack invitations

My youngest daughter wanted a Dora birthday party this year. She's been very adamant that it's Dora themed. I wanted to bring the fun Dora theme to the invitations in a personalized way. I was a little bit stumped as to how to do that... so I went online. I Googled "Dora party invitations" and a lot of pictures of backpack came up. I also came across a couple handmade backpack invitations and I thought, well... if they can do it... I can too. And so I did!

The hardest part was coming up with the template. I wanted to print them on purple card stock from home and them just fold the card stock to look like a backpack.

It took a couple tries but then I came up with a shape I was finally happy with. I ended up printing out a couple copies of the backpack on white paper just to give me the shapes of the eyes and mouth.

After that it's all about cutting out the mouth, eyes, eyebrows and lots of gluing! I think it turned out pretty cute though! And I've gotten a lot of complements on them from other parents. I think that even though it was a lot of cutting and gluing, it was worth it.

Another special touch I did was cut out strips of purple card stock and glue them to the back of the invitation like backpack straps.

Here is the finished product :)

  4. Hi Monique!
Thank you for asking- my scanner still is having problems with my home computer. I should have a better template up within the next couple weeks. But if you can't wait that long I made a quick template of the shape by hand. You should be able to click on the picture of it and be able to print it out. Let me know how it works for you or if it doesn't work. Thanks!

  7. Hi Becca. I tried to print the template u posted but for some reason it takes up 4 pages to print the entire thing. It's super oversized. Maybe it's just my computer and the settings are off?? Not sure so I'm goin to try it at my parents house today.. Hopefully it works :)
    Thanks Again!
    I'll update u

  8. I hope it worked for you today... I'm not sure why it was so large..hmmm... I guess if you tried just copying the picture and pasting it in word and enlarging it to fit the page it might give you an ok template. But fingers crossed your parents computer works :)

  9. Hi Becca, I have a set of triplets that are turning 3 in June and I loved the backpack invitation that you made. But I am having a hard time printing or copying your template. Is there a way you can email me the template? talinarjona@gmail.com

  10. Sorry, don't know why my name is now showing, its Talin. Also, my invitations are 4x6, will they be too big for the backpack? You are super talented. I just can't draw :-).

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes, I'll email you the jpeg. It shouldn't be too large for 4x6. I just used the standard 8x11 printer paper to draw a template on and once folded in thirds it's at least half that size. And thank you!

  16. Hi Becca! These are beautiful invitations! Once you designed the template for the backpack, did you use the template to trace each backpack?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes, I did use the template to trace each backpack. Took a little bit of time, but I think it was worth it. Thank you so much!

  31. Hi Lori and Judy. I don't have the dora backpack template saved on my computer anymore- but if you click on the "FREE TEMPLATE" tab at the top of my blog and click on the "DORA BACKPACK TEMPLATE" tab under the listed templates it will take you to a PDF FILE that you can download to your computer and print. I really hope that helps you both out. And good luck making them - I think they are so cute :D Thank you both!

  33. I'm so glad it worked for you. What I did was I printed the finished one under the free templates and used it as my guide. It's the same size as the template. I'd cut out the eyes and trace them onto white card stock. And repeat that with the mouth and eyebrows.

  42. Thank you so much, my daughter is having her 2nd birthday & she loves Dora, i'm not crafty at all but wanted to do something special for my daughter. The template you provided is such a relief, I think I can do it :) Do you have any templates on the dora favor bag? if so e/mail me @ msmosley312@aol.com. I will accept any helpful information

  43. I'm sorry I don't have a template for the goodie bags. For the dora one I just used the same eyes and mouth as the invite. I just pasted rectangles on the front and back of a paper bag. Yep, it's a paper bag- redesigned ;) I taped triangles to the sides of the bag to hold it's shape and glued a small square over the top opening. For the boys bag I just fiddled around with the mouth and eyes till it looked right and used orange paper. Hope that helps. Thank you so much!

  44. Hey Becca, we're needing to print the template of this. However we went to the Free Template Tab on here and clicked on the link, it took us to the Adobe site and we'd have to pay $20 to download the adobe product. Is there any way that you can email it to me at kellystangl@ymail.com
Thank you!! Please let me know!

  45. Aw man! They must have changed their website. It was free for the past year or so. I'm not sure where I have this template stored since this post is quite a few years old. But the last picture on this post (the black and white) is the exact template that I used. If you print it out to the size of standard printer paper and cut on the solid line you will have the template. Hope that helps! Good luck with your party!
